Oh wow, 41%
Feb. 7th, 2011 04:04 pmApparently the first ever long-range survey of discrimination against trans and genderqueer Americans (PDF) has come out (or see this summary article). I'm surprised to hear it's the first (even long-range) since I've heard stats cited before, but also chilled that these are, I think, the same. Read at risk of triggering by numbers alone, though there are no descriptions of assault.
I'm not sure how they found their 6,450 respondents (just read the article, started the survey), but the respondents deserve some serious thanks for all the information they provided. I'm glad the surveyors thought to look for exacerbating factors, e.g. trans people of color are much worse off. And the respondents 78% said they were more comfortable at work post-transition despite harassment at 90%, firing/non-promotion 47%--glad they asked that, too, evidence for all those people who would ask why one can't "just conform". It goes on.
