and this is going to take me not much short of forever, but here goes...

Date: 2005-11-15 02:17 am (UTC)The piece begins with a few loud minor chords on an electronic keyboard, and quiets. The right hand moves high and plays a simple, quick melody in D major, that is not quite an ostinato; the left hand begins the main theme of the piece, centered not far above middle C: a melody and harmonic chords with little rhythmic variation but notes that don't follow any expected cadences. It becomes slow and dissonant and in G minor...then the right hand and left hand scurry in opposite directions in E major, seeming to hit every note on the piano in seconds, but in perfect harmony, and fast and syncopated. After a little while, the left and right hand both play low and slowly in A minor, not harmonizing well despite the rhythm that mostly lines up. The left hand continues this while the right drifts up to return to its melody, this time played in A minor. It slows down and the left and right modulate to a haunting finish. It is the kind of piece that should be amazing...if only it could find a piano on which to play itself, it would hold rapt those without the attention span or imagination to hear what the keyboard cannot express.
